About the Artist

I am a freelance illustrator and writer, currently living in Champaign, IL. My favorite genres are fantasy, victoriana/anachrotech, and vermin. Primarily, my work is in pen/ink and watercolor, but I make forays into egg tempera, colored pencil, acrylic, digital, and the periodic oil painting. My favorite artists at the moment are the Northern Rennaisance Masters, the great kitchy artists of the 19th century, and Ursula Vernon. I like commissioned work better than things I have to come up with myself. On the side, I also dabble in numerous other creative ventures, including costuming, cooking, guerrilla woodworking, beadwork, embroidery, and writing.

I enjoy historical reenactment, reading, collecting bones, roleplaying and research, keep a variable number of rats (at the time of this writing, 3), and am a terrible housekeeper. I live with 4 other artsy people, a cat, a chinchilla, an assortment of lizards, a snake and one fish,in a large, falling-apart house. Those who are interested in hearing about my personal life can find my blog here. Those who prefer to stick with the art can find updates (and info on what conventions I'm sending to) on the main page or at the art blog here.

I happily accept commissions. More details can be found at the commission page.

About the Site

As a bit of a conceit, this webpage is modelled after a medieval manuscript. The background image is scarlet-toned cold-press watercolor board, in imitation of the rich Tyrian purple manuscripts made in the early Christian period. The calligraphy and illumination work are watercolor and gold ink. Said calligraphy is in a modified Renaissance Italic hand. The page was laid out on Dreamweaver with heavy manual tweaking, and is probably best-suited to Firefox.
